Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American television journalist, commentator and anchor of NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976 she joined the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). Within two years she was hired by NBC News as a Washington correspondent. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the main congressional reporter. Mitchell was appointed the chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief Foreign Affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV show Meet the Press and also host of the show. She was on the panel during the presidential debates in 1988 in the debate between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times in journalism, among them her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell was the very first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's tenure in office from 1981 to 1988. Her reporting included a number of significant stories, including the Iran-contra scandal, the budget and tax reform in addition to the arms control. She traveled extensively along with the president Reagan for summits along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
